The Hospital Bag Guide

When the moment finally comes to be able to deliver the baby, having all the hospital essentials ready to go will help you be more relaxed. Here are some essential items that should be in your hospital go bag.

Important Documents- As soon as you enter the hospital, they will need to have your insurance documents, identification such as your driver’s license, as well as any information that was designed for the intended parents. Having this information ready to go, perhaps in a folder, will make it easier to get checked in.

Comfort Items- Staying comfortable while waiting to deliver and during delivery will do wonders for you and the baby. A few items to consider bringing are a pillow from home, a cozy bathrobe, and slippers. Add in a few of your favorite snacks and lots of water to make sure that you stay hydrated.

Clothing- Although this falls right in line with comfort items, it deserves its own section. Start with packing underwear, enough for your hospital as well as a few extra pairs just in case. Once you throw in a few bras, a nightgown or two should make it in the bag. Choose ones that have no sleeves or shorter ones to make it easy to check your blood pressure. Once you can go home, maternity clothes that fit in months 6 and 7 should go in the bag.

Toiletries- Chapstick, lotion, toothpaste and your toothbrush should all be on hand. Having travel size shampoo, conditioner, and soap will make taking a shower easier. The hospital will provide you with some maternity pads to wear after, but bringing your own will likely mean they are more absorbent and comfortable.  Although you can put your flip flops with your clothing, consider putting them with your toiletries for an easy grab and go.

Electronics- You should always have a few things that can entertain you while you are waiting to deliver. Your phone, tablet or or even laptop can join the bag. Keeping communication with the intended parents as well as your agency will be incredibly helpful during this time.

We hope that this provides you with a starting point to packing your hospital bag.
