Becoming a Surrogate
Becoming a surrogate mother is one of the greatest blessings you can bestow upon another family. Many of our families come to us with the hopes of starting or completing their own family after years of heartbreak and inability to do so on their own. A surrogate mother in this instance is the gestational carrier of an embryo created through IVF with either the intended family’s egg/sperm or donor egg/sperm or a combination of the two. Without the help of a surrogate mother achieving a healthy birth would not be possible for these deserving families.
Who can become a surrogate? There are many qualifications needed for a future surrogate to meet before they can more forward with the process. Qualifications include:
- Have had a healthy pregnancy for a child you are raising
- Have had no preterm births for singletons
- Must be a non-smoker and live in a smoke-free environment
- Have a healthy BMI
- Must be between the ages of 21-39
- Must be financially stable
- Must be a US Citizen
- Must have reliable transportation
There are a few other qualifications to consider but these are the main factors you will want to review. It is important that you meet all of the above requirements before moving forward in the process otherwise; unfortunately it will not be a good fit.
One of the final pieces to review when considering a surrogate birth is financial compensation. While you should consider the non-monetary benefits to surrogacy we understand that you should be compensated very well financially. For a first time surrogate a singleton birth will receive $55,000 and twins will receive $65,000. However, an experienced surrogate can receive as much as $80,000 per birth. If you have any further questions about surrogacy qualifications or the process to becoming a surrogate our confidential team would be happy to assist.
